I’ve become a bit of a slow stitching nerd recently. If you like embroidery, no matter what your skill level, you might want to watch a few videos on slow stitching.
Mostly it uses scrap fabrics and whatever materials you have lying around. The quilt I’m currently working on has a couple of slow stitched panels and a (I think) rather impressive slow stitched 3D butterfly…

Now the panels of the quilt are finished and my slow stitching bug was still going on I mhanged to making patches.

Each patch is around 4 inches and all hand stitched using fabric scraps and embroidery techniques. Sometimes I embellish them with bits of hand made lace, buttons and ribbons and I’ve started using templates to draw tiny images on that add interest.

The most used stitches used are simple, running stitched and back stitches which make it easy for beginners. As you learn more stitches you start to add these too, blanket stitches around the edge to make it neat for sewing onto fabric, chain stitched and french knots and pretty much the only limit is your imagination.
If you’re local to me (Leeds/Wakefield) and want to join me, the on Thursdays 9.30am till 1pm I’m at the Salvation Army in Wakefield, feel free to come along and bring your embroidery with you. If you’re a complete beginner just bring yourselves and I’m sure to have spare threads and needles for you.
